The Ahwaz region suffers from a severe water crisis resulting from deliberate Iranian policies to dry up rivers and divert their courses away from Arab areas.
These policies have led to:
- Drying of the Karun River and most of its tributaries
- Destruction of agriculture and livestock
- Displacement of thousands of families from their villages
- Spread of diseases due to water pollution
Environmental organizations warn that continuing these policies will lead to an unprecedented environmental catastrophe in the region.
